Große Stücke hält man beim Supercup-Konkurrenten "ManU" auch auf Neuzugang Owen Hargreaves, der für rund 25 Millionen Euro von den Bayern kam. Kapitän Gary Neville, der verletzungsbedingt fehlen wird, lobte den Mittelfeldspieler bereits in den höchsten Tönen. "Man muss lange suchen, um jemanden zu finden, der schneller den Ball erobert als Owen. Er verliert nie die Konzentration und arbeitet hart für das Team. Wenn du Owen einen Job gibst, dann erfüllt er ihn", sagte Neville.

New boys could face Royals

Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that new signings Nani, Anderson and Owen Hargreaves will feature in United’s squad to face Reading on Sunday.

The Reds begin their defence of the Premier League title against Steve Coppell’s Royals at Old Trafford, and all three new boys are available for selection. Paul Scholes is also fit and raring to go after emerging unscathed from his surprise midweek return against Dunfermline at East End Park.

"Nani and Anderson will be in the squad, but whether they start or not, I have my doubts," the boss told reporters. "They probably need a bit more training and a few games. But I’m putting them in the squad anyway. Paul Scholes came through the game on Wednesday and he will be available for Sunday, which is good news.

"Owen played 60 minutes against Dunfermline and he will definitely be in Sunday's squad. He probably needs another game, but we were very pleased with his contribution. He showed exactly what he'll bring to the team. There was great speed to his play and I was delighted with his contribution."

United’s attacking options will be further boosted in the near future, with news that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Louis Saha were back in full training this week. The boss said: "Louis and Ole started training with the first team this week, which is good news. Hopefully they're not too far away. It will be great to have them back because of the experience they bring to the front line."

Skipper Gary Neville, however, is still some way from a comeback, having damaged ankle ligaments against Bolton last March. "Gary Neville is making progress, but it’s pretty slow," added Sir Alex. "I don’t think he’ll be available for three weeks."

Tevez completes Man Utd transfer

Manchester United have finally completed the signing of Argentine striker Carlos Tevez.
The summer saga involving Tevez eventually came to an end when the Premier League approved the deal - thought to be a two-year loan.

The 23-year-old had become a free agent when his agent Kia Joorabchian paid former club West Ham a £2m settlement.

Tevez is eligible to play against Reading on Sunday but the striker is not yet match fit.

His first game is likely to be the derby at Manchester City on Sunday 19 August.

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson said: "Carlos has surprised us. We thought he would need more training but he looks in great shape.

"It is a difficult situation to assess because a derby game can be frenetic. Once we know he can play, we can make a decision quite easily."

Tevez's registration as a United player brings to an end a long-running saga, which began back in April when West Ham were fined for breaching league rules when they signed the striker and his Argentine team-mate Javier Mascherano.

The Hammers' response was to tear up an agreement they had with Joorabchian - who claimed to own the striker's economic rights.

But when it emerged Tevez wanted to join United, the Hammers, backed by the Premier League, insisted they should receive the transfer fee, prompting Joorabchian to take legal action.

Joorabchian eventually agreed to pay West Ham £2m to release Tevez from his contract, allowing the Argentine to join United on a similar deal to the one that took Mascherano to Liverpool in January.

Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore has promised to tighten the rules to avoid a repeat of the saga.

"What made this an unbelievable story was an unbelievable series of events," he told BBC Radio Five Live.

"West Ham were all-but relegated at Christmas and then Tevez scored a few goals right at the end of the season and they were able to escape.

"It's unscripted drama and one of the things that makes football so interesting but in other ways it looks like a road crash in how some of the events appear."
