We don't need Xabi Alonso :-O ??. Okay, not that I see it likely to happen that he comes to us. But seriously, no matter what you think his position is (call it a DM, or a CM or whaterver...), it is down right ridiculous to say we don't need him. If we coudl i.e. replace Van Bommel with Alonso that would be such a huge step towards being one of that teams really fighting to win the CL....And I thought you understood something form football :(</span><br>-------------------------------------------------------
With 'don't need him' I mean that we should go for a pure DM, and not a CM. We already have 3 CM's (Borowski-Bommel-Zé Roberto) and a DM would give us more variable to play

I think we definitely need a defensive midfielder especially for Champion League next season.

Barzagli is going to Wolfsburg. Many of you doubt that Barzagli wont join Bayern as a third defender and I think you are again wrong on this, since Barzagli would rather join Wolfsburg, meaning that he would definitely join Bayern and challenege Demichelis and Lucio's position. But I guess Bayern board didnt go for him this time, although Toni would like see him joining us.

I guess Bayern will not invest in a central defender since they are relatively comfort with Van Buyten being the 3rd choice. But I want to point that we are lack of variety in defence although many of you might not agree and think having four defenders mean depth. In fact, Demichelis is the only different defender. All Lucio, Breno and Van Buyten are all very similar type of defender.

Overall, I guess we will invest in a reserve keeper, a 4th striker and a defensive midfielder. But I hope that they also pay attention to another creative midfielder

look they finished 5th on goal difference with hamburg(4th)
Now all these big name transfers....
I hope all other clubs follow in their footsteps to level up the bundesliga.Bundesliga needs this kind of transfers.

bbjtin - zaccardo from palermo is going to wolfs.... at leats thats wht i has read.

Zaccardo has signed for Wolfsburg awhile ago, and Barzagli is decided to sign for Wolfsburg in the next few days accordingly to goal.com as Palermo management did admit that Barzagli will be on his way to Wolfsburg.

I think Werder Bremen, Schalke and Wolfsburg will be stepping up to spend this season as they see the effectiveness of Bayern spending last season. I hope Bayern wont fall behind. We need to sign some worldclass players in order to have a meaningful challenege in CL next season.

chrisco : I want to let you know that if you have been following Bayern for some time. You will understand that even Hoeness made mistake before like signing Rau, Karimi, Hashemian, Ismael and the obvious Thiam, etc. I know the reasons why they signed all the above player for, but none of them achieved any of our expectation. The point is that Van Buyten is not a bad defender in Bundesilga - probably one of the best here when he was playing Hamburg. But the problem is that Bayern doesnt play like Hamburg. Hamburg loves to play very defensively with a few counter attack spark from Van Der Varrt, Guerreo, etc. Thats why Van Buyten is able to defend well if a team has a deep defensive line. He can use his physical present to head away ball that crosses into the box. Unforunately, when he played for Bayern last season, both Lucio and Van Buyten hold the defensive line at around midfield when Bayern is attacking. If any of our midfielders mispass the ball, like Schweinstger and Ottl always did, opponents are able to play a simple 1-2 to break through the defensive line, since even if either Lucio or Van Buyten turn their heavy bodies around and start chasing at the same pace, opponents are always able to beat them to the ball. Thats what happened to Bayern last season even when we have controlled the game and opponents just had a few opportunities to score and they normally did score. Therefore, I want Bayern defence to have some variety b/c Breno is like a young Lucio and with three of them all with similar quality. I am not sure if Demichelis is injuried, we will be able to cope with opponents' counter attack. Beside, our defensive midfielder, Van Bommel and Ottl, are not extremely fast runner either. That makes the situation worse. We need somebody like Jeremies or Hargreaves to cover the ground, but most of all, they are able to chase down opponents' counter attack. We also need a player like Demichelis to close down the gap when opponents are playing counter attack

the facts are all so simple.. we're still missing another central midfielder since van Buyten didn't play that well this season, we're missing a pure ball winner on the DM, and as well a 4th striker. while in the playmaker position some can now say that Borowski will have to find his place there still are 3 big holes that need to be filled.

unless the board is expecting another summer with no major transfers we can all look forward to the usual screenplay.. aka.. winning the bundesliga and barely getting out of the group stage in the CL after which FCB will be eliminated.which is the exact stage at which teams completely dependant on 1-2 players are eliminated (Ribery and Toni).

Butt is going to be the second goalkeeper, now we have to concentrate on bringing a creative midfielder or defensive midfielder... That's gonna be the hard part! If Bayern buy a defensive midfielder, then Bayern could cover up the hole in the defense. If Bayern buy a creative attacking midfielder, then Bayern could decrease the pressure on Ribery, but there is still going to be a hole in the defense. In my opinion, no offense to anyone, Demichelis is good defender, but he is a bit slow, and some players like Cristiano Ronaldo or Ibrahimovi&#263; would be a major problem to him. Lucio, on the other hand, he is OK, but he makes errors often. I think that Lucio could play the role of a defensive midfielder, and Bayern should buy a central defender, a really good one (just a suggestion, don't attack me now) What do you guys think??

I dont think Demichelis is slow, in fact, I think Lucio, Van Buyten and Breno are much slower. I agree that we probably need strengthening in the defensive department as three of the above defenders are similar type player - tall, but often exposed when opponents playing 1-2 breaking down the flank. In addition, our central defensive midfield is weak as well, as neither Van Bommel nor Ze Roberto is typicial defensive midfielder. Their sense of position is relatively weak compared to Jeremies and Hargreaves.

Butt would be our second keeper. I think he is a decent backup as he is not yet near the end of his career yet. With signing of Borowski, we still need enforcement in either defensive midfielder or creative midfielder position. I see the need of a defensive midfielder more as Van Bommel, Ze Roberto, Schweinstger and Kroos can all play in more of an attacking role. I guess a skillful 4th striker is also needed.

Ballack can play in defensive midfield. Resign Michael and let MVB sit on the bench to cool his temper.

But is Ballack coming back? I dont think so. Beside, I think he has renewed his contract with Chelsea for a few more years if I am not wrong. Obviously, Bayern will benefit from Ballack, but I really dont think he will be coming back as he has stressed that Chelsea is so much better than Bayern all the times

he went to chelsea for european glory and he was that close to have it , he won't quit chelsea especialy now because he's a champion and champions don't quit !!!

Ballack will never come back to Bayern b/c of the way of how Hoeness and Rumminegge is treating this club like a joke. After reinforcement of 9 new players last season, we are not buying any player for the next season. Thats stupid. Even Man Utd which has won the CL this season is aiming to enhance several positions in the summer. Bayern is always so slow in closing the gap b/w themselves and major European clubs.

Ballack has never won the premiership with chelsea, he won NOTHING this season and he lost the champions league final. But if he comes back to bayern then he will go one better and win the champions league with bayern and also the league.
